The guy buried in this grave had a very loyal pet dog... story goes that when he died, his dog would come & lie on his grave until it also died (of grief, hunger, loneliness, despair, etc... actual cause unknown but it's likely to be one or all of the above). I'm not sure if the dog is actually buried in the same grave as its owner, but when the gravestone was built, the dog statue was included as a tribute to a dog that lived up to its reputation as "man's best friend loyal until the end".
I think I'd like a cat statue to be built on my grave next time. And perhaps have a recording of a cat meowing played to the cemetery at every hour. LOL.
